International Business Services of Panama, Inc.
Our Mission
International Business Services of Panama, Inc. was established as an international commercial consultant firm in the Republic of Panama during 1986. IBS was created to assist select businesses come to Panama and Central America to open new markets, and help Panamanian companies expand outside the Republic. From 1986 to 1991, IBSINC functioned offshore; and in 1992, the company began operations within the Republic.

Corporate Profile

IBSINC is a close held corporation, structured as a Type B Panamanian service company that underwent a 5 for 1 stock split in March 1993 to increase its capital to 250,000 shares, having corporate assets under $1,500,000. The principal stockholders are US Government employees, citizens from New Zealand and Great Britain, multinational shipping companies and related maritime services. Operational control rests with the General Manager. The Legal Counsel for the Corporation is a well-respected local firm and the Comptroller and Accountant is licensed both in Panama and the United States.

Management has senior company experience in marine services, administration, business, finance, and marketing. All members of the management team held positions in reputable international companies, organizations and agencies.

Our staff is carefully selected, specialists in their field, chosen to implement a particular project. They are a mix of Panamanians and North Americans with occasional project consultants of various nationalities. They come from different career backgrounds from corporate America, the US Government, Panamanian Government, National private business, including a group of Panamanian Nationals who have participated in our "in service" training program. The core operation consists of a team of five with an additional ten "on call" specialists.

In early 1995, after the new government had defined its priorities and method of operations, IBS underwent an organizational restructuring to accommodate the political changes. Reorganizing to become a family of associated companies consisting of, Blackwood Companies, CAVA S.A.., Dynamic Sales Corporation, IBS evolved, each company specializing in their particular field of expertise and working together to address the client needs in the most cost effective manner.

Free Zone operations, managed by our corporate associate CAVA S.A. became in transit business, warehouse facilities were converted to maritime support facilities, and more emphasis was given to security and project development. Our corporate associate Dynamic Sales Corporation primarily handles marketing and sales of product. While Blackwood Companies handles United States operations and product representations.

In 1996, IBS established representative offices in Germany and Belize. Through these offices, we began developing broader commodities trading services working with oil, sugar, and urea for the emerging nations of the region. The company gave greater emphasis to telecommunications and networking resulting in major representations of beverages and eye wear in the Caribbean Basin and Latin America.

IBSINC represents several small to medium size enterprises predominantly interested in security and protection equipment, a small trading company, and a small real estate project in the country side. We concentrate on new, innovative services and equipment on the cutting edge of technology. Our principal client base comes from outside the Republic and our task is to assist them to navigate through the bureaucracy of the country without stumbling into the economic pitfalls. IBS aids clients to work with various agencies of both the United States and Panamanian governments, comply with laws, licensing and registration requirements while at the same time taking utmost advantage of any tax savings available to maximize earnings in a tax free zone.

As the Republic of Panama continues to change through globalization IBS has evolved. Most recently, IBS has been involved in the design, development, writing and implementation of a virtual web site so that the company will not be dependent strictly upon the Panamanian market.

Specific Accomplishments

One of our projects is Port Services of Panama, the only Panamanian approved program of vessel and cargo protection and inspection in the Republic. Port Services assists carriers to control the illegal movement of drugs and stowaways through the nation. The program complies with the US Treasury Department "Sea Carrier Initiative Agreement" requirements. Port Services allows the carriers to exercise the "highest degree of care and diligence" possible in the Republic. To support this project Port Services brought to Panama, the first Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), and underwater camera to do hull inspections. Port Services developed a GPS/VTS tracking program to monitor the movement of high-risk cargoes to protect them against pilferage.

Since 1994, IBS has been actively involved in identifying and building alternate solutions for construction sand and raw material for our clients. Classically, Panama has taken its construction sand from the beaches and rivers creating severe ecological stress, depleting natural resources and destroying not only the rain forests and watersheds but also the beaches perceived by Panama as the new economic growth area: tourism. Through our efforts and the energy of others, Panama has established new laws for offshore continental shelf sand concessions, less damaging to the environment, to serve as an interim solution while longer lasting solutions are developed.

Another notable success is, the development and implementation of an educational protocol between the National University of Panama and the United States Sports Academy, a program of post graduate academic excellence in sport. Recently completing the First Annual National Symposium of Physical Education, they are now putting in place distance learning programs and Internet research services throughout Panama. The first certification program in "Sport Coaching" was completed in October 1997 with over 30 graduates. The program with USSA was such a success that the University of Panama has now expanded its electronic learning services to span the globe.

Most recently, IBS has been providing services to Bridgefarmer Panama, the prime contractor for the Kansas City Southern Railway (Panama Canal Railway Company). IBS had a small grass cutting contract to keep forty-four miles, from Panama to Colon, open, operating, and free of debris.

Some of the other organizations we represent are La Salle Imports, the manufacturers of the Corning Optical lenses and other top name eye wear, World Home Industries, the only manufacturer of prefabricated homes approved for funding by Ex-Im Bank and construction in California's earthquake zone, Canoro Resources/Nel Oro Mining and Ramm Venture Corporation mining companies traded on the Vancouver Stock Exchange, International Telecard a U.S. telephone calling card service, Kimberly-Clark, Solo Container Corporation, Amway, FOMOSA a Brazilian manufacturer of furniture and timber exports, and Taylor Tools, design and manufacturing specialists in oil well and agricultural valves.
